General Membership

  • You agree to accept communications from ARC (usually no more than 2 emails per month)

  • You must commit to and agree with ARC’s mission, values, and bylaws

Voting Membership

In addition to general membership requirements:

  • You must attend and sign in at two activities in a 12-month period (may include writing or speaking to City Council).

  • You may vote on officer elections, ARC policies, and political endorsements.

All Members

  • You may opt out of sharing contact info with ARC’s partner organizations.

  • You may serve on ARC action committees or as liaisons to partner organizations.

General Meetings

  • Usually occur every other month on the 1st Saturday of the month (This has varied since COVID.)

Roles

STEERING COMMITTEE: Establishes policy, sets budget and allocates funds. Members include representatives from action committees, below, and ARC officers (treasurer and secretary). The steering committee may vote to grant membership or voting rights to any applicant.

ACTION COMMITTEES

  • Communications: Manages ARC website and social media. Responds to messages through Facebook group, website form, and email. Helps write ARC communications and promote events.

  • Communities of Color and Immigrants: Advocates for communities of color and immigrants, and conducts tenant outreach.

  • Events: Plans special events such as annual picnic and July 4th parade.

  • Fundraising: Applies for grants and solicits donations. Works with committees on fundraising events.

  • City/State Legislation: Tracks city and state legislation and advocates for renters’ positions.

  • Membership: Keeps membership rolls and collects dues. Tracks attendance for voting membership.

  • Seniors & Disabled: Advocates for seniors and the disabled on tenant issues, including Section 8.

  • Tenant Organizing and Outreach: Organizes tenant groups in buildings and handles other outreach.

LIAISONS: ARC needs reps and alternates to serve as liaisons to our partner organizations: Alameda Justice Alliance, Filipino Advocates for Justice, Regional Tenant Organizing, and Tenants Together
